Basic Beginner Grappling Workshops

Learn the basic submission grappling vocabulary so that you can play safely and smartly. We will help you build your tool kit of positions and techniques so that you can play this "total body" sport, all while increasing general fitness, stamina, and core stability.

Open to men and women. User-friendly, intimate learning environment. We welcome participants from LGBT and alternative communities.

Style
We will primarily be practicing no-gi submission grappling based on brazilian jiujutsu. Some people will train in a gi if they plan to compete in a gi division for a tournament or if they prefer gi training. Contact us if you are curious whether or not to bring your gi.

Format & Time Frame
In our 60 minute workshop, participants learn learn grappling-specific conditioning exercises and basic techniques to start building a grappling vocabulary. Escape drills and live rolling (sparring) are also included to put techniques into context.

Partnering
Participants will be paired with partners according to their height and weight. Beginners will work with more experienced participants whenever possible to optimize the beginner's training. Participants will be given individual attention as needed to assure that they learn proper form and technique.

Facilitators
Practice facilitators are Damien "Terror Dog" (certified professional fitness trainer, practitioner of bjj and submission grappling, and 18 years of martial arts experience), and his esteemed colleagues VeVe and Tony, both experienced in bjj and submission grappling, and both tournament competitors.
